We repair and restore all types of clocks, ranging from longcase to mantel. We are specialists in the repair of electric clocks such as Vitascope and Sectric, as well as all other syncronous movements.

We are happy to give free initial estimates on the cost of repairs, but some problems (i.e damage to gears or barrels) may not be apparent until the movement is stripped down. We will always contact the customer before commencing any work.

This enlarged image shows a broken pinion assembly from an American wall dial. New hardened steel pins were made and fitted before re-assembly of the movement.

Here is a triple fusee movement from an English bracket clock, which strikes the quarter hours on eight bells or Westminster chimes. This movement has been completely stripped down and each part assessed, cleaned and any repairs undertaken before re-assembly. In the case of this particular movement, several drum pins had to be drilled out and replaced. Excessive wear on arbors is rectified by cleaning up in the lathe, and re- bushing the front and back plates of the movement. Finally, re-assembly and setting up takes place. There are many adjustments to make to this kind of movement, such as chain tensioning, strike syncronization, rack adjustments and regulating over a period of time.

The images shown below are of some of the clocks in stock, in the process of being repaired, or under test and calibration after cleaning and lubricating. After a period of time, depending on the conditions in which the clock is kept, the lubrication can solidify and become ineffective. It is never too frequent to have the movement cleaned and re-lubricated - just like the engine oil in your car! Left too long, wear can occur and cause damage. Over-lubrication, the wrong oil, or oil in the wrong places, can attract dust and dirt and be just as bad for your clock.

We provide a comprehensive clock repair, and case / dial restoration service for all types of clocks and timepieces. Please contact us for further details on 01432 271261.
